China Extends Anti-Dumping Duties on Indian, Japanese ODCB Imports for Five Years
24 January 2025, New Delhi: China’s Ministry of Commerce has announced an extension of anti-dumping duties on ortho-dichlorobenzene (ODCB) imports from India and Japan for another five years, effective January 23, 2025.
The decision follows a sunset review initiated in January 2024 at the request of China’s domestic ODCB industry. The review determined that lifting the duties could lead to a resurgence of dumping and harm to local manufacturers.
The extended measures retain the duty rates established in 2019. Indian exporters will continue to face a 31.9% anti-dumping duty, while Japanese companies will be subject to a significantly higher rate of 70.4%.
Importers of ODCB from India and Japan are required to pay these duties based on the customs-assessed import value upon entry into China.
ODCB, a versatile chemical, plays a crucial role in the production of pesticides, pharmaceuticals, and dyes. This development reinforces China’s protective measures for its domestic chemical industry, with India remaining a key player in the global trade of ODCB.
