China and Vietnam Hold 2024 Joint Event for Propagation and Release of Fishery Resources in the Beibu Gulf
16 May 2024, China: The 2024 China–Vietnam Joint Event for Propagation and Release of Fishery Resources in the Beibu Gulf was held in the Beilun River estuary in Dongxing, Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, on May 9.
Over the years, China and Vietnam have carried out productive cooperation in jointly managing and conserving fishery resources in the Beibu Gulf. The two countries have so far held fish propagation and release events seven times, releasing a total of over 354 million fry of aquatic species into the Beibu Gulf. These events have helped conserve aquatic resources and maintain ecological balance in the waters of the gulf. They have also promoted sustainable fishery development and increased the income of fishermen, which is in the interests of the fishermen of both countries and meets their expectations.
A total of 128 million aquatic fry were released into the Beibu Gulf during this year’s event, including blackhead sea bream, red sea bream, saddletail grouper, mangrove red snapper, redtail prawn, mud crab, and Chinese horseshoe crab. This record-breaking release event will drive pragmatic fishery cooperation between China and Vietnam, enhance sustainable fishery development in the region, and contribute to transforming the Beibu Gulf into a gulf of peace, friendship, and cooperation.
The event was co-hosted by the Ministry of Agricultural and Rural Affairs, the People’s Government of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, and the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development of Vietnam. Representatives from the Office of the Foreign Affairs Commission of the CPC Central Committee, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of China, the Chinese Coast Guard, and other departments also participated in the event.
