Bilateral meeting with the Prime Minister of Ethiopia, H.E. Abiy Ahmed

17 February 2025, Addis Ababa: The Director-General of FAO Dr Qu Dongyu met with H.E. Abiy Ahmed, Prime Minister of Ethiopia in Addis Ababa on the margins of the 38th Summit of the African Union.

The Prime Minister welcome the Director-General and expressed deep gratitude for the support that FAO has extended to the country throughout the years. He expressed appreciation for the technical assistance which has pivoted Ethiopia’s food production particularly wheat production in a positive trajectory.

He informed the Director-General that the country is currently working on increasing not only wheat but coffee and tea production with the aim to be the top exporter in Africa in the next three years.

The Director-General thanked the Prime Minister and reaffirmed his commitment to further continue to support Ethiopia. He acknowledged the remarkable strides that the country has reached not only in agrifood systems transformation but also in green cities development.

He stated that Ethiopia could continue to count on FAO support in all its agricultural development objectives.
