Preventing Powdery Mildew in Mango Orchards: ICAR-CISH Releases Advisory
11 March 2025, New Delhi: The ICAR-Central Institute for Subtropical Horticulture, Rehmankhera, Lucknow, has issued an important advisory for mango growers. The institute has cautioned that the prevailing weather conditions may lead to a higher incidence of powdery mildew, which poses a serious threat to mango panicles.
Mango orchard managers and agribusiness professionals need to stay vigilant, as the disease tends to affect inflorescences, potentially reducing fruit set and overall yield. If the infection is observed on more than 10 percent of panicles, it is crucial to take immediate measures to mitigate its impact. Experts recommend spraying with tebuconazole + trifloxystrobin (0.05%), hexaconazole (0.1%), or sulfur WDG (80%) at 0.2% to effectively control the spread of the disease.
Ensuring timely intervention is essential to maintaining orchard health and optimizing productivity. Given the economic significance of mango cultivation, preventive management strategies play a vital role in safeguarding both quality and yield. The institute advises stakeholders to monitor their orchards closely and take necessary precautions, keeping in mind weather forecasts and disease prevalence.
