Possibility of Infestation in Moong Crop Due to Weather Fluctuations; Experts Advise Timely Measures
Crop Protection Advisory for Indian Moong Farmers
15 May 2025, New Delhi: Agricultural scientists from the Harda Krishi Vigyan Kendra and officials from the Agriculture Department have advised farmers in the district to remain alert as recent light rainfall and fluctuating weather conditions over the past 2–3 days have increased the chances of pest infestation in moong crops.
Experts have particularly warned about the potential outbreak of caterpillar (Helicoverpa) infestation. Farmers are advised to inspect their moong fields daily, and if any signs of caterpillars are observed, they should spray any one of the following insecticides:
- Emamectin Benzoate 5% SG – 200 grams per hectare
- Profenofos 50% EC – 1.25 liters per hectare
- Indoxacarb 14.5% SC – 500 milliliters per hectare
In addition to pest issues, there is a risk of Yellow Mosaic Virus disease in summer moong crops. For its effective control, the agricultural scientists have recommended spraying the following insecticides:
- Thiamethoxam 25 WG – 40 grams per acre
- Imidacloprid 17.8 SL – 50 milliliters per acre
These should be mixed in 100 to 125 liters of water per acre and sprayed during early morning or late evening hours for best results.
The Agriculture Department has urged farmers to act promptly in response to weather changes to protect their crops from potential damage.
