07 December 2022, Switzerland: In a fifth edition, FiBL, together with organic associations from Switzerland, Germany, Austria and France, publishes a list of vegetable varieties that have been bred without cell fusion technology. The list contains the currently available cell fusion-free varieties of cruciferous vegetables (i.e., cabbage, broccoli, etc.), chicory varieties (i.e., chicory, sugar loaf, Cicorino Rosso, etc.) and parsley root.

With the exception of cauliflower, broccoli, white cabbage, savoy cabbage and chicory, Bio Suisse producers are no longer allowed to use varieties from cell fusion breeding as of 2019. For producers of Bioland, Naturland, Demeter, Bio Austria, Label FNAB, Bio Cohérence and Biobreizh, the list is binding for all crops.

The positive list serves as a guide for producers in choosing cell fusion-free varieties in the corresponding vegetable crops.
