Pheromone Traps for Pod Borer Control in Gram Crops

25 February 2025, New Delhi: The pod borer is one of the most damaging pests in gram crops. It attacks the pods, causing significant loss in yield. To monitor and control the pest population, it is recommended to install pheromone traps at the rate of 3-4 traps per acre. These traps attract and capture adult moths, thus reducing the pest population in the field.

If flowering in the gram crop has reached 10-15%, this is the ideal time to set up traps. Farmers can also install “T” shaped bird perches around the crop field to help control the insect population naturally. By following this integrated pest management approach, farmers can protect their gram crop from pod borer damage.
