IARI Advisory: Timely Sowing of Fodder Crops Like Gwar, Maize, and Bajra

Technical Advisory from Indian Agriculture Research Institute (IARI) for Indian Farmers

08 April 2025, New Delhi: The IARI Advisory recommends that farmers begin sowing fodder crops such as gwar, maize, and bajra during this week. These crops are essential for ensuring a steady supply of nutritious feed for livestock. For optimal results, seeds should be sown at a depth of 3–4 cm with row-to-row spacing of 25–30 cm. Maintaining adequate soil moisture is key to achieving uniform and high germination rates.

Sowing during the recommended period improves the chances of better biomass yield and quality fodder. These crops not only support livestock nutrition but also contribute to overall farm income. Adhering to the IARI Advisory ensures farmers can maximize the benefits from their fodder cultivation efforts this season.
