IARI Advisory: Green Manure Sowing Tips for Higher Soil Fertility
Technical Advisory from Indian Agriculture Research Institute (IARI) for Indian Farmers
08 April 2025, New Delhi: According to the IARI Advisory, this is the ideal week to sow green manure crops such as dhaicha and sanai to enrich soil health. These crops play a vital role in improving soil organic content and are especially beneficial before sowing major kharif crops. The recommended seed rate for sanai is 60–70 kg per hectare, while for dhaicha it is 50–60 kg per hectare. Farmers must ensure adequate soil moisture to facilitate proper seed germination and early growth.
Maintaining proper field conditions with sufficient moisture will result in robust green manure growth, which can later be incorporated into the soil. This practice enhances soil structure and fertility while reducing the dependence on chemical fertilizers. Following the green manure recommendations from the IARI Advisory will help in sustainable farming and long-term productivity improvement.
