How to Register Agricultural Land in India: Step-by-Step Process

16 February 2025, New Delhi: Registering agricultural land involves multiple legal steps to establish ownership. The first step is drafting a sale agreement, which should outline the price, payment terms, and legal conditions of the transaction. The buyer must then pay stamp duty and registration charges, which vary by state. The final step involves signing the sale deed at the Sub-Registrar’s office in the presence of witnesses. Once the sale deed is registered, the buyer must apply for mutation of land records, ensuring that ownership details are updated in government records.

Failure to complete this process can lead to disputes or difficulties in selling the land in the future. Proper registration is critical to securing legal ownership and protecting the investment from future claims.
