Blossom Blight in Mango: How to Protect Your Crop During Blooming Season
12 March 2025, New Delhi: Blossom blight is a serious fungal disease affecting mango orchards during the flowering season. The ICAR-Central Institute for Subtropical Horticulture (CISH), Rehmankhera, Lucknow, has warned that this disease can lead to the dropping of infected flowers and young fruits, significantly impacting yield. High humidity and rainfall create favorable conditions for rapid disease development, putting mango crops at risk.
Farmers should remain alert and monitor their orchards for early symptoms of blossom blight. If affected panicles are detected, ICAR-CISH recommends timely management through fungicidal sprays. The disease can be effectively controlled by applying Carbendazim 12 + Mancozeb 63 WP or Trifloxystrobin + Tebuconazole at the prescribed dosage per liter of water. Spraying at the first signs of infection prevents the disease from spreading and ensures healthy panicles for fruit set.
Along with fungicidal treatment, maintaining proper orchard hygiene and ensuring adequate airflow around trees can help reduce humidity levels and prevent fungal growth. By adopting these preventive measures, farmers can safeguard their mango orchards from blossom blight and improve overall fruit production.
