UPL Launches New Herbicide ‘Centurion EZ’ for Soybean, Cotton, and Onion Crops
19 May 2025, Bhopal: UPL has introduced its new herbicide, Centurion EZ, in India. The product was launched last week during events held in Bhopal and Indore, Madhya Pradesh, with participation from key dealers and distributors. The herbicide has been developed following six years of research focused on weed management in soybean, cotton and onion cultivation across Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, and Maharashtra.
Product Overview
Centurion EZ (Technical: Clethodim 13% w/w EC) is a post-emergence systemic herbicide designed for the selective control of grassy weeds in soybean, cotton, and onion crops.
Mode of Action
The active ingredient, Clethodim, is absorbed through the foliage and translocated via the phloem to the meristematic regions of the plant. It inhibits the activity of the enzyme Acetyl-CoA Carboxylase (ACCase) by binding to its active site. This prevents the conversion of acetyl-CoA to malonyl-CoA, a critical step in fatty acid synthesis. As a result, lipid production is disrupted, leading to the breakdown of cell membrane formation, cellular dysfunction, and eventual weed death.

Recommended Application
The herbicide is recommended for use 15 to 20 days after sowing, once weeds have developed 2 to 4 leaves and sufficient moisture is present in the field. The advised dosage is 400 ml of Centurion EZ mixed with 200 liters of water per acre. Visible suppression or elimination of weeds can be expected within 4 to 14 days after application.
