Spanning an area of 8.2 hectares in Shela village, near South Bopal, Ahmedabad, the project aims to provide state- of-the-art public amenities to the local community.

The inauguration event was held with great enthusiasm and was graced by Shri Amit Shah, Honourable Member of Parliament (Gandhinagar), Central Minister of Home Affairs and Cooperation, Government of India; Shri Kanubhai Patel, Honourable Member of Gujarat Legislative Assembly (Sanand), Smt. Kanchanba Vaghela, Honourable President of Zilla Panchayat, Ahmedabad, and Shri Vikram Shroff, Vice-Chairman & Co-CEO of UPL. Their presence underscored the significance of this development in conserving water, promoting community well-being and infrastructure development in the region.

Speaking on the occasion, Shri Vikram Shroff, Vice-Chairman & Co-CEO of UPL, said, “At UPL, we are deeply committed to creating sustainable solutions that benefit communities and enhance their well- being. The Padam Bhushan Rajnikant Shroff Sarovar & Udyan reflects our vision to give back to society while fostering green spaces that improve quality of life. We hope this transformed lake and park becomes a cherished destination for the people of Shela and Ahmedabad at large.”

The foundation stone for the project was laid on 12th June 2022 by Union Home Minister and Gandhinagar MP Shri Amit Shah. After receiving necessary permissions from the District Development Office and AUDA, UPL executed the initiative with community-centric features.

The project ensures sustainable operations with a 90 KW power connection for lighting and water pumping needs. The Main Lake Area has been strengthened and beautified with stone pitching along the periphery, decorative fencing, and two entry gates. A rejuvenated old well, secured with fencing, adds a historical charm to the space. Visitors can enjoy 10-ft.-wide cement concrete walkways, a spacious 35-ft.-wide pucca parking area, and lush lawns with decorative trees. The area is illuminated by streetlights and features an entrance gate with a ramp for accessibility, ensuring inclusivity.

The Extended Lake Area, developed with a capacity of 50 lakh litres, enhances the site’s aesthetics with a beautifully crafted artificial lake. This section includes expansive lawns, cement concrete walkways, and decorative fencing, offering visitors an additional serene and functional space.

The Public Park Area spans approximately 14,000 sq. meters and features an open-air theatre with a 40 sq. meter stage, lush lawns covering 6,000 sq. meters, and horticultural landscaping supported by a drip irrigation system. Modern amenities include an open gym and a dedicated children’s play area equipped with state-of-the-art equipment. The area also houses a renovated temple, toilet blocks with

baby care amenities, and ample parking facilities, making it a convenient and enjoyable destination for families.

Adding to the project’s community-centric approach, a cattle trough area has been constructed over
400 sq. meters of land, with three troughs designed to cater to animals. Small horticultural enhancements further elevate the space, ensuring a harmonious blend of utility and greenery.

The lake and park complex will now be managed by the district administration and promises to serve as a hub for relaxation, recreation, and environmental education for years to come. The Shela Lake Development and Beautification Project reflects UPL’s ongoing efforts to support community infrastructure and well-being.
