Recommendations for Hail Damage Management in Apple Orchards (Spray Schedule 2025)

05 March 2025, New Delhi: Hailstorms can cause significant damage to apple orchards, affecting fruit quality and overall yield. Timely intervention with appropriate sprays can help minimize losses and support plant recovery. Here are the recommended steps to manage hail damage effectively:

Immediate Action (Post-Hailstorm Spray)

To prevent fungal infections and aid healing, spray 100 g of Carbendazim or 600 g of Mancozeb in 200 liters of waterimmediately after the hailstorm. This helps protect the damaged plant tissues from fungal attacks.

Nutrient Supplementation (Within 3-4 Days)

To strengthen plant recovery and improve resistance, apply a nutrient spray consisting of:

  • 200 g Boric Acid
  • 500 g Zinc Sulphate
  • 250 g Quick Lime

Mixed in 200 liters of water, this spray should be applied within 3-4 days of the hailstorm to aid cell repair and nutrient absorption.

Follow-up Nutrient Application (After 10-12 Days)

For sustained plant recovery, apply a spray of micronutrients such as Agromin, Multiplex, or Microvit at a rate of 400-600 g per 200 liters of water. Additionally, spraying 1 kg of Urea in 200 liters of water will help restore nitrogen levels and promote new growth in the hail-affected trees.

By following these steps, apple growers can enhance tree resilience, reduce fruit loss, and improve the overall health of their orchards after a hailstorm. Regular monitoring and timely application of sprays will ensure better recovery and yield stability.
