Managing Powdery Mildew with Hydroxy-Pyrimidine Fungicides

26 February 2025, New Delhi: Hydroxy-pyrimidine fungicides, such as bupirimate and dimethirimol, are widely used for managing fungal diseases like powdery mildew. These fungicides inhibit key enzymes involved in fungal metabolism, disrupting the growth and development of the pathogen. Their mode of action makes them particularly effective against powdery mildew, a common issue in many crops.

However, like other fungicides, hydroxy-pyrimidines are not immune to the threat of resistance. Resistance has already been observed in certain fungal strains, particularly in crops that rely heavily on this group for disease control. Farmers must rotate hydroxy-pyrimidine fungicides with other fungicides that target different metabolic processes to prevent resistance buildup.

By combining hydroxy-pyrimidines with other pest management practices, farmers can effectively manage powdery mildew and protect their crops from further resistance issues.
