Malathion: A Broad-Spectrum Insecticide for Household and Agricultural Use

20 January 2025, New Delhi: Malathion is a widely used organophosphate insecticide that targets pests like mosquitoes, flies, and fruit flies. It works by inhibiting acetylcholinesterase in the nervous system of insects, ultimately leading to their death. This pesticide is effective in both agricultural and domestic settings, used to control pests in crops and to eliminate mosquitoes in residential areas.

Despite its broad use, malathion is less toxic to humans and animals compared to other organophosphates, making it a safer option for household use.
