ISO Provisionally Approves New Common Name “Prochlorosulfone” for Herbicide
10 February 2025, New Delhi: The International Organization for Standardization (ISO) has provisionally approved the common name “prochlorosulfone” for a benzoylpyrazole herbicide developed by Shandong Binnong Technology Co. Ltd. The approval, granted on February 5, 2025, is a key step in the herbicide’s global recognition and regulatory acceptance.
The herbicide, known in Chinese as 噁唑磺草酮, is identified by the chemical structure 4-[2-chloro-3-[(5-methyl-2-oxo-1,3,4-oxadiazol-3(2H)-yl)methyl]-4-(methylsulfonyl)benzoyl]-3-cyclopropyl-1-methyl-1H-pyrazol-5-yl 5-chloro-1,3-dimethyl-1H-pyrazole-4-carboxylate with the CAS number 3023924-34-4.
Stakeholders wishing to file objections—such as concerns regarding potential trademark conflicts—must do so by August 5, 2025, by contacting the ISO Maintenance Agency. If no objections are raised, “prochlorosulfone” will be officially approved and included in the next edition of ISO 1750, which lists preferred and common names for pesticides.
