CropLife Europe statement on Strategic Dialogue on the Future of EU Agriculture

23 September 2024, EU: Today, the European Commission published the conclusions of its Strategic Dialogue on the Future of EU Agriculture, a forum bringing together stakeholders from across the agri-food chain to shape a shared vision for EU agriculture.

CropLife Europe recognises the Strategic Dialogue as a crucial platform to evaluate the key role the agricultural sector plays in strengthening the resilience of a food system that equally values people, planet, and progress.

A forward-looking, well-defined and coordinated EU framework will support a thriving EU agricultural sector that competes in the global market while maintaining farmers’ living standards, promoting rural areas, and ensuring European and global food security.

The conclusions show a renewed push to strengthen the position of EU farmers in the supply chain and boost the competitiveness of our agri-food sector.

We are happy there is an emphasis on an outcome-based EU regulatory framework – a key request of our sector. An enabling, predictable and science-based regulatory framework will ensure EU farmers can access the tools they need to produce safe, healthy and affordable food while protecting the environment and biodiversity. It also helps to ensure farmers have access to the latest agricultural innovations to optimise input without compromising outputs.

The EU’s food and agricultural system will equally value people, the planet, and progress. The conclusions presented today are promising.
