The 10th Annual Mosaic-Sehgal Awards Celebrate Innovation and Impact
03 April 2025, Gurugram: The Mosaic Company, The Mosaic Company Foundation for Sustainable Food Systems, and the S M Sehgal Foundation marked a decade of recognizing excellence in plant nutrition research at a prestigious awards ceremony held at Le Meridien, Gurugram, Haryana.
The Mosaic Company Foundation for Sustainable Food Systems Awards for Plant Nutrition Research celebrate groundbreaking contributions in scientific research, outreach, and innovation that drive sustainable food systems. These awards aim to inspire continued advancements in plant nutrition, ensuring agricultural sustainability and food security.
This year’s awards honored distinguished scientists for their exceptional contributions to plant nutrition. Dr. Abhilasha Tripathi received the Outstanding Doctoral Research Award for Women, while Dr. Sandeep Bedwal was recognized with the Outstanding Doctoral Research Award. Dr. Dibyendu Chatterjee was presented with the Young Scientist Award. The awardees were recognized for their innovative research in plant nutrition and were presented with a certificate, a gold medal, a blazer, and a monetary reward.
Dr. Trilochan Mohapatra, Chairperson of the Protection of Plant Varieties and Farmers’ Rights Authority (PPVFRA) and former Secretary of the Department of Agricultural Research and Education & Director General of ICAR, attended the event as the Chief Guest. Commemorating the tenth anniversary of the awards, he congratulated past and present winners and acknowledged the initiative’s role in promoting plant nutrition research.
The event featured keynote addresses from industry leaders, including Mr. Bruce Bodine, President and CEO of The Mosaic Company, Ms. Jenny Wang, Executive Vice President – Commercial, The Mosaic Company, Mr. Ben Pratt, Vice President, Public Affairs, The Mosaic Company and President of The Mosaic Company Foundation for Sustainable Food Systems, and Dr. J. C. Katyal, Former Vice Chancellor of HAU, Hisar.
Speaking at the event, Mr. Robin Edwin, Managing Director of Mosaic India Pvt. Ltd., emphasized the importance of supporting agricultural scientists in their mission to advance plant nutrition. He stated that it was an honor for Mosaic and The Foundation to collaborate in their shared vision of ensuring global food security by recognizing outstanding contributions in this field. Mr. Bruce Bodine reinforced this sentiment, highlighting that food security is the defining challenge of the time and that innovators like the researchers honored at the event are crucial in developing technologies and practices that will sustainably feed the world.
Ms. Anjali Makhija, Trustee and CEO of the S M Sehgal Foundation, spoke about ‘Krishi Jyoti,’ a long-standing partnership between The Mosaic Company Foundation for Sustainable Food Systems and the Sehgal Foundation. She shared that this initiative has positively impacted nearly 800,000 people across 273 villages in seven states, reflecting the organizations’ dedication to sustainable agriculture and rural development.
The ceremony was attended by esteemed members of the agricultural and scientific community, including representatives from the Indian Council of Agricultural Research, Indian Agricultural Research Institute, Indian Institute of Soil Science, National Research Centres, State Agricultural Universities, Fertilizer Association of India, International Zinc Association, and CIMMYT. Government officials and international delegates were also present, reinforcing the event’s significance in the global agricultural landscape.
As the awards complete a decade of recognizing excellence, they continue to inspire new breakthroughs in plant nutrition, driving forward the vision of sustainable agriculture and a food-secure future.
