Budget 2025-26: A Pathway to Self-Reliance and Agricultural Growth, Says Nishant Kanodia

04 February 2025, New Delhi: The Union Budget 2025-26, presented by Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, lays a strong foundation for economic growth through tax reforms, infrastructure investment, and targeted support for key sectors such as agriculture, manufacturing, and urban development. With a focus on enhancing middle-class spending, driving private investment, and maintaining fiscal discipline, the Budget aims to steer India toward sustainable and inclusive growth.

Reacting to the Budget, Nishant Kanodia, Chairman of Matix Fertilisers and Chemicals Ltd., highlighted the government’s strategic emphasis on boosting fertiliser production in eastern India. “A renewed push to eastern India in urea production is a game-changer. Reviving dormant urea plants and establishing a 12.7 LMT facility in Namrup, Assam, will strengthen domestic capacity, ensure fertiliser security, reduce import dependency, create jobs, and bolster the rural economy,” he stated. He further emphasized that these efforts align with the broader vision of agricultural self-reliance and rural prosperity.

The Budget’s commitment to empowering farmers is evident through initiatives such as PM Dhan Dhanya Krishi Yojana and targeted interventions in 100 agricultural districts to enhance productivity, sustainability, and post-harvest storage. Kanodia believes these measures reinforce the government’s vision of Atmanirbharta in agriculture by focusing on resource-efficient production and food security.

Looking ahead, the Budget also paves the way for a tech-driven future with significant allocations for AI, cloud computing, and digital infrastructure. Kanodia noted that “Agri-tech, precision farming, and digital supply chains will empower farmers and optimize productivity. Substantial outlays to expand high-speed internet access in rural areas and upgrade cybersecurity measures will go a long way in realizing the Viksit Bharat vision.” Additionally, a dedicated fund for research and development in AI and machine learning will fuel innovation and drive India’s leadership in emerging technologies.

With a clear roadmap for self-reliance, food security, and digital progress, Kanodia expressed his optimism for India’s future, stating that this Budget strengthens the foundation for a prosperous and technologically advanced Bharat.
