Swaraj Tractors reaches out to 95,000 under its Cancer Care Project

Swaraj’s flagship CSR project currently provides free check-up’s and palliative care to 172 cancer patients in Punjab

04 February, 2021, Mohali: Swaraj Tractors, a part of the USD 19.4 billion Mahindra Group has reached out to over 95,0000 beneficiaries in Punjab since it began its Mahindra Mobile Primary Health & Cancer Care Project nearly six years ago.  This project serves157 villages across three districts of Punjab -Bathinda, Patiala and SAS Nagar enabling urgent action through early-stage cancer detection, screening and diagnosis to improve a cancer patients’ chances of survival.     

The project having been initiated considering the notable health challenges related to cancer Swaraj Tractors along with its NGO partner Global Cancer Concern, India has conducted over 1000 OPDs in Punjab till now. Under this project as many as 407 terminally ill patients, have received palliative care, with 172 cancer patients currently registered for this service. Cancer Awareness camps, Cancer Screening Camps and Primary Health OPDs are the three components of this project in addition to providing palliative care. Three well equipped Mobile OPD vans have also been commissioned under this project.

Speaking on World Cancer Day, CEO of Swaraj Division, Mr Harish Chavan said, “Cancer Care Project by Swaraj is a unique initiative that has touched the lives of thousands by creating awareness about the deadly disease and aiding early detection of cancer.   By providing this free of cost service, it is our endeavor at Swaraj to serve the society at large as a responsible corporate. Through this project we continued to serve the residents of 157 villages in Punjab even during the pandemic and provided palliative care to registered patients.”

The project in its first phase through the preventive and curative treatment had helped beneficiaries in raising awareness about cancer a disease, its causes and symptoms and reaching out to terminally ill patients through Palliative Care. The project in its first phase (2014-17) was implemented in 30 villages of the SAS Nagar District of Punjab and subsequently in the second phase (2018-21) was extended to more than 122 villages of three districts of Punjab (Patiala, Bathinda & SAS Nagar)

Project Highlights

·         Aim: Primary Health and Awareness Generation for early detection of Cancer in Malwa Region, Patiala and SAS Nagar District of Punjab, Reaching the Cancer Patients at the Doorsteps through Palliative Care

·         No of patients covered till date and till this particular year: (95421 Beneficiaries Covered till Jan 2021)

·         No of patients being provided palliative care at present: 172

·         Total 407 Patients have been given palliative Care since inception of the project

·         No of OPDs conducted till date: 1124

·         No of OPDs done during current pandemic situation: 266 (April to Jan 2021)

·         No of villages covered: 157 Villages across three districts of Punjab (Bathinda, Patiala, and SAS Nagar)

·         No of patients detected at the first state of cancer: 19
