RCF Joins Maharashtra Mango Growers to Help Farmers Earn More, Beat Market Challenges

22 April 2025, New Delhi: Rashtriya Chemicals & Fertilizers Ltd. (RCF), a leading public sector enterprise in India, is widely recognized for its high-quality fertilizers and insecticides. Beyond its manufacturing operations, RCF is deeply committed to the welfare of farmers, working throughout the year to support agricultural growth and rural development.

At a recent conference organized by the Maharashtra State Mango Growers Association in Parhur, Taluka Alibag, District Raigad, RCF Executive Director Mr. Nitin Hirde served as the Chief Guest. He highlighted RCF’s continuous efforts to empower farmers and its dedication to all sections of society. During his address, he offered key farming guidelines and shared details of various farmer-centric initiatives run by RCF. He also proposed the organization of specialized workshops for farmers at the RCF complex to boost their technical know-how and resilience.

The conference, aimed at supporting mango and horticulture growers, was presided over by Mr. Chandrakant Mokal, President of the Maharashtra State Mango Growers Association. He voiced concern over the significant decline—ranging from 30% to 40%—in the production of mangoes, cashew nuts, vegetables, and other horticultural crops, attributing it to climate change and global warming. To tackle these challenges, the association is working closely with Agriculture Universities and ICAR.

Mr. Mokal also emphasized the need for alternative market systems, pointing out the exploitation of farmers in APMC markets. He advocated for the ‘producer-to-consumer’ model, which allows farmers to directly sell their produce, leading to better financial returns and reduced dependence on middlemen.

The event saw strong participation from farmers involved in all types of horticulture. Key dignitaries present included Pawankumar Nazan, Agriculture Development Officer, Raigad Zilla Parishad; Kailas Wankhade, Sub-Divisional Officer, Raigad District Agriculture Office; Dr. Rakesh Kawale, Chief Public Relations Officer, RCF; Prof. Vaishali Samant, Scientist, Karjat Agriculture Research Centre; Dr. L.S. Chavhan, former Director, Karjat Agriculture Research Centre; and Mr. Naganath Gharat, former Agriculture Officer, Mangaon Taluka.

The speakers addressed critical issues such as climate change, soil health and testing, spice cultivation, water conservation, and export opportunities, all aiming to equip farmers with practical solutions for sustainable farming.
