ICSCE 2024 Delhi Showcases Global Agrochemical Innovations; PMFAI Awards Celebrate Excellence in Agri Inputs Sector

05 September 2024, New Delhi: The 20th International Crop Science Conference & Exhibition (ICSCE 2024) concluded successfully on September 3 at the Andaz Hotel, Aerocity, New Delhi, marking another milestone in the evolution of the global agrochemical and agri-biological sectors. Organized by the Pesticides Manufacturers and Formulators Association of India (PMFAI), the two-day event witnessed robust participation, with over 1,000 delegates from across the globe, including key stakeholders from countries such as Argentina, Brazil, France, Japan, and the USA.

The conference began with a welcome address by PMFAI President Mr. Pradip Dave, who highlighted India’s pivotal role in global food production and the vital contribution of crop protection products in sustaining agricultural growth. Mr. Dave noted that PMFAI and ICSCE have been instrumental in the expansion of India’s agrochemical industry, with exports growing from Rs. 270 crores in 1997 to a staggering Rs. 50,000 crores today.

The event brought together 82 leading companies, showcasing their innovative products and solutions in the agrochemical and biological segments. Key presentations focused on emerging trends in the global market, addressing challenges such as climate resilience and sustainable agriculture. Notable speakers included Mr. Abhijit Bose of Tagros Chemicals India Pvt. Ltd., Dr. Ferry Hermawanto from Nouryon, and Mr. Raghavan Sampathkumpar of the Federation of Seed Industry of India.

Dr. J.P. Singh, Plant Protection Adviser to the Government of India, remarked on the sector’s role in securing the nation’s food supply and the importance of continued investment in research and development. He stressed that while India has 335 registered agrochemical molecules, only 50 biologics are in use, underlining the need for innovation in biological solutions to move toward a more sustainable agricultural future.

The event also featured panel discussions on topics like the future of the Indian biologicals industry and integrated pest management strategies, with contributions from industry experts such as Ms. Sandeepa Kanitkar of Kan Biosys and Dr. M.K. Reddy Mudiam from the Institute of Pesticide Formulation Technology.

PMFAI Awards Recognize Excellence in the Agri Inputs Sector

Coinciding with ICSCE 2024, the PMFAI hosted a special awards ceremony to honor individuals who have demonstrated exceptional leadership and innovation in the Indian agri inputs sector. Among the notable awardees were:

  • Ms. Komal Shah Bhukhanwala, Director, SML Limited – recognized for her contribution as a leading woman in the agrochemical sector.
  • Mr. N.P. Nair, Vice President of Gharda Chemicals Ltd. – honored for his achievements in international sales and marketing.
  • Mr. Ashwani Mahajan, Vice President of Rallis India Ltd. – awarded for excellence in supply chain management.
  • Mr. Abhishek Aggarwal, COO of Bharat Rasayan Ltd. – named an emerging leader in the sector.
  • Dr. Ajit Kumar, Principal Technical Advisor, UPL Limited – recognized for his contributions to regulatory compliance in the agrochemical industry.
