ICARDA at Cairo Water Week 2024

09 October 2024, Cairo: ICARDA is honoured to act as a co-convener for the 7th edition of Cairo Water Week (CWW), themed “Water and Climate: Building Resilient Communities,”  in Cairo from October 13 to 17, 2024.

Water Week, a prominent international platform, fosters innovation and dialogue on climate-smart water management. It brings together experts, practitioners, and policymakers to collaboratively develop solutions for water and climate challenges, particularly in the drylands of the MENA region and beyond.

Hosted by the Egyptian Ministry of Water Resources and Irrigation (MWRI), the conference focuses on key topics such as climate adaptation in the face of water scarcity, and how to strengthen the resilience of dryland communities. This year’s CWW stands out due to the concurrent hosting of the 9th Africa Water Week, establishing Cairo as a central hub for forward-thinking water management in the face of the climate crisis.

ICARDA’s CWW delegation, led by Dr. Vinay Nangia, ICARDA’s Research Team Leader for Soils, Waters, and Agronomy, will host several workshops and engage in events and technical sessions hosted by partner organizations. The delegation will showcase our latest pioneering agricultural innovations in water resources management, provide insights on the transition to green energy and precision agriculture, and advocate for sustainable water management practices in the arid MENA region.

“Green energy is key to building climate-resilient agriculture in the MENA region. By integrating renewable energy solutions with water management innovations, we can drive more efficient resource use and support sustainable agricultural growth”. Dr. Vinay Nangia, ICARDA’s Research Team Leader for Soils, Waters, and Agronomy

Our scientists will also share their expertise in partner organizations’ workshops and demonstrate how ICARDA remains dedicated to developing innovative solutions and actionable strategies that address water-related challenges both within the region and globally amidst climate change.
