Ag careers on the horizon for students
22 October 2021, Australia: Nutrien Ag Solutions is supporting the Student Horizons organisation to bring students to regional Australia to experience firsthand the career paths available in agriculture.
Nutrien Ag Solutions Managing Director Rob Clayton said Nutrien Ag Solutions is proud to partner with Student Horizons to showcase the opportunities for a career in agriculture and a life in regional Australia.
The experiences the students have on farm during their trip will have a profound impact on them and we hope to see them pursue a career in ag as a result.
In the most recent trip, Bronte Lloyd, Animal Production Specialist at Nutrien Ag Solutions Rockhampton, hosted Year 10 students from Brisbane at cattle station Alice Downs in Queensland.
During the visit students were encouraged to broaden their minds to the many career possibilities on offer and had the unique opportunity to work on real-world problems, like agriculture’s adoption of new technology and innovation to meet the challenge of producing more food and fibre with less pressure on our natural resources.
Mr Clayton said the nature of jobs in the agriculture industry is changing.
“For too long agriculture has been represented as an industry with laid-back male farmers who fix fences and move stock from one paddock to the next – this does not represent the modern agriculture industry. Ag is a dynamic high-tech business and our farmers are on a continual search for improvement,” said Mr Clayton.
“We still recruit the traditional roles of agronomists and livestock agents, but we are also looking for data analysts and web developers. With this rise of technology, now is the perfect time to educate people for the jobs of the future in agriculture.”
